So, Molly (my cat) has a tendency to pick the most expensive USB cords to destroy.
Usually she picks the most iPhone charging cables. I obviously get enraged especially when the count is up to seven. I lock her out of the room and try to prevent any accidents from happening but that just keeps her from being able to sleep in my bed at night.
I went to church (I’m Catholic) and the priest shared a story while explaining a bible passage. It has been 4 months and it has stuck with me, so I really want to transcribe the story and share it with you.

An old monk raised a pot of orchids, He cares about these flowers and tends to them, weeding after weeding.
Under the old monk’s care, the orchid grew to be very healthy and beautiful.
One day, the old monk was asked to speak at an event out of town and required him to be away for a few days. He entrusted the orchids to his apprentice, a young monk.
Since the young monk is very responsible, he made sure to follow the same care and routine the old monk used to care for the orchids. The orchids thrived under his care.
After watering the plant one morning, the little monk decided to keep the window open to let in some fresh air, that was when a gust of wind smashed the pot of orchids. Seeing the ruined plant in the ruined shards of the porcelain pot, the young monk was upset and terrified of the how the old monk would react.
The old monk returns after a few days and the little monk tells him about the orchids, ready to accept any punishment. The young monk was surprised to see the old man so calm after such tragic news was delivered because he knew how much the old monk cherished the orchids. Which the old monk smiled and says, “I raise orchid, not to be angry.”

Obviously, this story is applicable to every situation in our daily lives. We have no power or control over what happens to us but we have the power to decide and choose how we react. We make friends, date, own pets…these are relationships that are built by choice, we keep them in our lives because they enhance it in some way.
By choosing to react with anger, we are letting a negative energy dictate that relationship.
On that lovely note, let’s get ready to welcome the last month of 2017!
